G.I. Joe Movie Casts Scarlett and Storm Shadow
Two more roles have been cast for the upcoming G.I. Joe live action movie, one Joe and one Cobra. Scarlett, who was originally Duke’s love interest in the cartoon, but will supposedly be Snake Eyes’ main squeeze in the movie, is going to be played by Rachel Nichols (P2, Alias, The Amityville Horror). Meanwhile, Korean star Byeong-Heon Lee (Three… Extremes, I Come with the Rain) has signed on to play Snake Eyes’ arch enemy, the ninja Storm Shadow.
I’m afraid I can’t offer much insight into these two casting choices. I know nothing about Lee except that he is supposedly a huge star in Korea, and apparently his likeness was used for the Xbox 360 game Lost Planet. None of his previous movies seem to be martial arts films, which is odd because I would think they would want to cast another glorified stunt man to go head to head with Ray Park. Then again, Storm Shadow actually talks.
Rachel Nichols is best known for being Rachel Gibson on Alias, and although I haven’t seen much of the show, it does seem like a good place to draw from for a role like Scarlett. However, I think she also comes from a modeling background so I really don’t know how extensive her action experience would be. Not that it matters — they have stunt doubles for that. They wanted a pretty face, and they got one. Bottom line: these are probably secondary characters, and the big news will come when they finally cast Duke and/or Action Man.

P2 is probably the one horror movie that flew past everyones radar this year in the theaters. It’s pretty much a really well made film school movie, but it wasn’t a good film. I liked Rachel Nichols in the movie though. She’s got some amazing cleavage and hopefully we’ll see that too in G.I. Joe.
Posted by Primal on December 19th, 2007Come on, people! Everybody on each blog I read say how they don’t know anything about Byung-hun Lee. Haven’t you seen A Bittersweet Life or Joint Security Area? They are some of the best Asian movies ever made and he played the main character in both of them. The first one was made by the director of A Tale of 2 Sisters, the other by the director of Oldboy. Ring a bell? Even if you only ocasionally watch Asian movies you should have seen those two that he starred in.
