Hancock Trailer Starring Will Smith and Jason Bateman

The first trailer for Will Smith’s next movie Hancock has just hit the web, and I have to say, it’s not at all what I was expecting. I remember hearing about this project years ago when it was called “Tonight He Comes”, and it was supposed to be directed by Michael Mann. The idea, as I understood it, was that Will Smith would play a superhero who had to deal with real-life problems — something similar to M. Night Shyamalan’s Unbreakable. Well now it appears that the version to hit the big screen is almost a straight up comedy… or at least that’s how the trailer plays.

Peter Berg (The Kingdom, Friday Night Lights) is the director who ended up helming the project, and Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman co-star. I’m not saying the movie doesn’t have potential, but something about it seems off… not to mention the fact that superhero spoofs are a dime a dozen nowadays. Check out the trailer and see what you think. Hancock hits theatres on July 2nd.

  1. I’m on the fence. It looks like it could be interesting but I have to agree that something doesn’t seem quite right.

On the other hand, I’ve enjoyed Berg’s other films (finally got around to “The Kingdom” and it was better than I had expected) so I’m curious to see what comes of it but from that trailer alone…I’m undecided.

  2. I’m feeling it.

  3. Man this movie looks great. Will Smith is the best actor of our time ladies and gentlemen.

  4. man, that looks FUNNY! will smith is the best actor ever.

  5. Assuming everyone here has by now seen the second trailer, I think it’s safe to say that by now it is becoming increasingly apparent that this is going to be the movie of the summer.

Obviously the producers are withholding as much of the plot as they possibly can so that the audience can actually enjoy the movie in it’s entirety instead of already being familiar with most of the plot as is the case with so many movies nowadays where the trailers show pretty much every interesting scene there is.

This movie is going to rock.
