Mamma Mia! Movie Trailer Starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan
Is it just me or have there been a lot of musicals coming out in theatres lately? Not that musicals haven’t been around forever, but it just feels like there is a massive resurgence as of late. Maybe it stems back to the success of Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge! in 2001, but over the last few years we’ve seen a handful of Broadway shows being brought to the big screen including The Producers, Rent, Hairspray and The Phantom of the Opera. Now get ready for Mamma Mia!, the feature film adaptation of the ABBA musical starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd, Amanda Seyfried and Julie Walters! There’s a part of me that thinks these musicals are meant to be seen on the stage, and if you decide to put it on film, you had best kick it up a notch. Watching the trailer for Mamma Mia!, I’m not convinced that it brings anything new to the table. But hey, how can you resist the music of ABBA? There’s definitely a huge built-in audience for this, alas, I am not a part of that audience. Are you? Mamma Mia! hits theatres on July 11th, 2008.

there is not a snowballs chance in hell i will ever see this movie. I hate ABBA more than any other band in the entire world, they are like nails on a chalkboard to me.
Posted by Goon on December 13th, 2007I like ABBA, used to listen alot to ABBA Gold when I was a kid. There’s some classic stuff in there. I have no interest in a stage show or a movie though. I mean I guess the stageshow gives you a chance to hear the songs performed live, but getting to hear Pierce Brosnan sing isn’t a big hook for me.
Meryl Streep though… She is probably one of the 3 best actors ever in the american language. She could definitely make this movie fun.

Posted by Greg on December 14th, 2007Yeah, I’m curious about Streep and even the girl in the movie (one of the kids from Big Love) but beyond that, I have no interest. Certainly not enough to go out to see this on the big screen.
Posted by Marina on December 17th, 2007Meryl Streep is the best2 actress to me.. when i watch the trailer, so AMAZING!!.. i love Meryl Streep.. she’s like a young gal and still strong in the movie, as you all can see she’s jumping on the bed..ehehe..
Posted by Deena on December 21st, 2007It is a new era when most of the Broadway Musical Shows are making their way into mainstream America via the Movie Theatres. Obviously, you will have no nonsense individuals comment on a movie without giving it a chance. To those that that don’t go – your loss…To those that do – good for you. Mamma Mia looks like a WINNER! just like Hairspray, Chicago, Rent, and Sweeney Todd!! Nothing like it live, but at least we’ll be able to see it adapted on screen…
Looking forward to seeing the movie!! Welcome back Meryl Streep to your musical roots!!
