Hear Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Hit Song from Southland Tales: “Teen Horniness is Not a Crime”
Against my better judgment, I keep waiting and hoping that Richard Kelly’s Southland Tales will expand to more theatres in the near future. All signs indicate that it is one of the weirdest, most wacked out movies of the year, and walks a fine line between clever satire and awkward mess. Here’s a perfect example of what I mean: in the movie, Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character is a porn star who records a Britney Spears-esque pop song called “Teen Horniness is Not a Crime”. The song is included on the Southland Tales soundtrack, and will supposedly be released as an actual radio single. Listening to the song, as horrible as it is, I can definitely see it being blared in cars and throughout nightclubs everywhere. Zeon’s Music Blog has a link to the MP3, so head over there and check it out, then laugh at such inane lyrics as “An overcrowded nation / leads to sex frustration / all your legislation / can’t stop teen’s masturbation”. Brilliant or moronic? You decide.

a little too close to actual pop music lyrics.
Posted by Goon on November 29th, 2007‘2008 is the horny teenage’? This sounds exactly like a hit song though, I think it’s pretty genius.
I have no doubt that the people involved with it has some respect for it themselves though, and I can definitely imagine Sarah Michelle Gellar actually thinking this is a good song. It sounds like that Lindsay Lohan music that was out, or Paris Hilton. Unless the movie itself makes a mockery of it in some way, I don’t think this is an insightful entry. It’s like making gay jokes throughout a movie only to teach people that that’s not how gay people really are. You are still cashing in on the gay jokes, and unless there is some actual evidence otherwise (ie. mockery in the film) this is just another movie song, like that horrible Transformers rock song that was blasted all throughout the summer.

Posted by mike on November 29th, 2007I’m pretty sure the movie is making a mockery out of stardom, Henrik. I know what you mean about gay jokes, etc though – I think the best case of that though is something like “Shallow Hal” which is nothing but fat jokes wrapped up in a ‘be nice to fat people’ message.
I can appreciate a non-racist person making a racist joke in an ironic way – i hope people understand what i mean by that – when you laugh at something because its so untrue – family guy pretty much is coasting off of this concept.
