Extensive List of Disney References in Enchanted
I have to admit, I’m a bit surprised at how much people seem to love Enchanted, Disney’s self-referential live action film starring Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey. It did seem like a clever concept when I first heard about it, but somehow I thought Disney would completely drop the ball. It appears I may have been wrong. I still have yet to see the flick, but it’s currently sitting at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. After years of lackluster direct to video sequels, is Disney finally back on top?
The thing that many people seem to enjoy about the film is its willingness to poke fun at previous Disney classics, so I thought some people may be interested in reading this very thorough list of all the hidden (and not so hidden) references contained within the movie. Someone over at the Kansas City Star took it upon themselves to scribble them all down. Keep in mind, this list also contains spoilers, so you may not want to read unless you’ve already seen the movie!

Oooooo. I’ll have to mark this for review AFTER seeing it!
Posted by Marina on November 27th, 2007The list is good. It’s a little obvious though. I mean just about every second of that movie is referencing Disney movies in general. Constantly breaking into song, animals helping out. Sure there are a few specific refernces, but mostly it’s just poking fun at everything Disney has done over the last 60 years.
By the way, the movie is excellent. Surprise hit of the year. I loved it.
Posted by Andrew James on November 27th, 2007me too – I actually can’t wait to see it again
– think I’ll use it as an excuse to treat my parents around christmas – i’m sure they’d dig it.
I’m not sure Jay would be into it though to be honest – I think he’d have an appreciation for what Amy Adams managed to do with this role, but he hates musicals to an extent that it could get in the way even if they are to a high degree, tongue in cheek.
Posted by Goon on November 27th, 2007I have no problem with the list but I didn’t really get the vibe that they were making fun of Disney movies. This is not a Scary Movie version to Disney films. I guess some would be poking fun at some stuff, but it’s more that they were homages than anything else.
Well, Disney has one more movie to come out this year which is National Treasure 2. I did like National Treasure 1 and it was much better than The Davinci Code. I’m not sure what Disney has planned for ‘08, but 2007 has been awesome for Disney for sure. Although I haven’t seen Underdog and Meet the Robinsons, hehe.
Posted by Primal on November 27th, 2007I just looked at the list and though it’s pretty good Andrew gets the points: most of it is pretty obvious – only a handful of the ones she mentions are really hidden. And if we’re going to be completionists….they missed a few of the less obvious ones.
