Monday Morning Box Office Report – Nov. 26th, 2007

There was a lot of action at the box office over the American Thanksgiving weekend, with quite a few movies pulling in solid numbers (even at #10, No Country for Old Men still earned over $8 million, which is pretty decent). The box office was lead, however, but the new live action Disney flick Enchanted, which has proven to be a massive success both commercially and critically. At #2, perhaps predictably, was Preston A. Whitmore’s holiday comedy This Christmas, followed by Beowulf. Hitman came in at #4 with $13 million, and Seinfeld’s Bee Movie maintained a presence in the top 5 with another $12 million. The big surprise for me was that Stephen King’s The Mist opened all the way down at #9 this weekend. Earning $9 million against such stiff competition isn’t a complete disaster, but I’m sure people were expecting more from it.

1. Enchanted — $35.3M
2. This Christmas — $18.6M
3. Beowulf — $16.2M
4. Hitman — $13M
5. Bee Movie — $12M
6. Fred Claus — $10.7M
7. August Rush — $9.43M
8. American Gangster — $9.21M
9. The Mist — $9.06M
10. No Country for Old Men — $8.11M

  1. I had every intention of seeing The Mist by now, but things keep coming up to keep anyone from going with me, and I hate going to the theater alone. I’ll definitely be catching it before it’s gone, though.

  2. The Mist was pretty cool and even if you see it alone Rian, hopefully you get a good crowd to watch it with :)

I also saw Enchanted and I thought it was awesome. It’s been a very long time since I’ve watched a movie with a smile on my face pretty much the entire movie. The best family film of the year by far. Amy Adams is adorably charming and it was easy to fall in love with her.
