Kung Fu Dunk Teaser Trailer
It’s pretty obvious that Stephen Chow’s Shaolin Soccer has had a big impact on asian cinema over the last few years (and considering its worldwide success, it’s not hard to understand why). We’ve been seeing a number of similar sports comedies recently that incorporate martial arts action, including the spiritual successor to Shaolin Soccer, entitled Shaolin Girl. Here’s another upcoming film that brings the style to basketball, which is now all the rage in China thanks in part to Yao Ming. Kung Fu Dunk stars Jay Chou (Curse of the Golden Flower, Initial D) and is based on a popular manga and anime series (similar to another recent sports comedy Prince of Tennis). The teaser doesn’t really show much, but there’s another rough montage of clips from the film on YouTube (although it looks like some of the FX shots aren’t quite finished yet). No word on a North American release yet, but Kung Fu Dunk will be released in China on February 7th, 2008.
