Nicolas Cage, Steve Buscemi and Tracy Morgan Join Jerry Bruckheimer’s G-Force

Nicolas Cage, Steve Buscemi and Tracy Morgan have all signed on this week to star in an upcoming movie called G-Force, but before you start whining about how Nicolas Cage is going to ruin a sacred geek franchise, take note: this is a completely different project from the Gatchaman film in production at Imagi Animation Studios. In fact, it has no connection at all to the Japanese animated series Gatchaman (or as it was known in North America, Battle of the Planets). The “G” in this G-Force stands for… Guinea Pig?!

Yes you heard that right. Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer are producing a movie about a group of highly-trained special agent rodents who are trying to thwart an evil billionaire’s plans to take over the world. The movie will mix live action and CGI, and Cage, Buscemi and Morgan will voice Speckles the mole, Bucky the hamster, and Blaster the guinea pig respectively. Bill Nighy and Will Arnett will also play human characters. I’m guessing this will end up resembling the Garfield and Stuart Little movies; first-time director Hoyt Yeatman was previously in charge of visual effects on such movies as Underdog, Kangaroo Jack and Mighty Joe Young. I can’t say I’m overly interested in this (Underdog completely wasted a potentially fun concept) but I do wonder if they chose the name on purpose? Surely this is going to cause confusion as I believe both Gatchaman and G-Force are scheduled for release in the middle of 2009.

  1. Oh god. WHY?

  2. Except from a couple of Tony Scott movies, the only Bruckheimer productions worth giving a chance are the ones that star Nicolas Cage.

  3. Awesome. Nic is my fave actor. It’ll be interesting to see how he does in an animated film.
