At least it looks like they got the 2nd tier of Industrial Light & Magic to work on the visual effects (Roger Guyett)...

I just can't wrap my head around how this is going to work. The villain is played by Eric Bana who has significant presence on screen, and the heroes are being played by heart-throb TV actors... How will that ever come off as a believeable conflict? It's like Harvey Keitel vs. Haley Joel Osment.

Once upon a time, Winona Ryder joined the ensemble cast of another formerly great sci-fi series and did her part in turning it into a piece of shit (*cough* Alien Resurrection *cough cough*). Honestly, Ryder is far from the most confusing/disconcerting addition to the cast of the new Star Trek film, but her involvement still manages to make me wary. We shall see.

Damn, Henrik, how did you get the first comment in?

I remember reading a magazine article long ago, might have been Rolling Stone magazine, in which some of Ryder's famous acting friends commented on how many of Ryder's fans were Star Trek geeks.

Seems like Abrams made an insightful choice in casting Ryder, because now Henrik and I have to see this new Star Trek movie. Until now, I was underwhelmed by all of the news about this new movie.

If only they had made a risky move in casting Jessica Alba as Uhura. (I know Greg. You were within a few feet of her recently at the TFF. Yes, I'm jealous.)

Now if only they would hire a mature writer, I would be ecstatic about this.
