Forest Whitaker Wants You to Do the Dew with Online Game Dewmocracy
Once an actor manages to win one of those elusive Oscars, there’s really nowhere else to go but down… so you might as well just start hocking soft drinks and developing online advergames, right? Hey, it’s what Forest Whitaker has chosen to do as a follow up to his Academy Award-winning performance in The Last King of Scotland. Whitaker had a major hand in the creation of an online fantasy game for Pepsi-Cola North America called Dewmocracy, which challenges players to create their own Mountain Dew drink right down to the the colour, flavour and label design. He was attracted to the project because of its political undertones.
“Mountain Dew offered me an amazing opportunity to create a mythic universe using all forms of storytelling that will allow those who participate to develop their product… This is about taking a stance and making things happen. It’s about empowering people and allowing them to express themselves and create something that represents who they are.” Riiight. It’s not about selling a product, it’s actually about self-expression. Gotcha. Get Mr. Whitaker a galaxy of prawns because it sounds like he is working on his vary own Funzo.
I’d say that he now has to make his own “Catwoman” to prove bad choices after Oscar, but he already has Battlefield Earth, and that’s enough thank-you very much!
I still like the bulk of films on his resume, so if he has to indulge to get it out of his system, then so be it.

Posted by Phil on November 8th, 2007Combining his ridiculous oscar speech with the fact that former junkie Joel Schumacher describes him as ‘Yoda’ with this statement leads me to believe that Forest Whitaker has a substantial amount of screws loose, and is in fact a crazy person.
