High Noon Remake On The Way

For the past few years we’ve been watching just about every horror movie ever made get remade. Now that the studios have just about run out of horror flicks, it looks like they’re about to hop genres. Will remakes of westerns become the next big trend? After the success of 3:10 to Yuma, it doesn’t seem too far-fetched, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, there is now a remake of the 1952 classic High Noon on the way. The original was directed by Fred Zinnemann, starred Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly, and won 4 Oscars at the time. The High Noon rights were recently obtained by producer Mark Headley, actor Christopher Mitchum and their business partner, Toni Covington, who will be working together to get the new version off the ground. They are currently looking for a director and a star, and are aiming for a $20 million shooting budget. Being that the original is over 50 years old, I suppose it qualifies for a remake. But is the general public ready for a new wave of westerns? Hey, if they all starred Christian Bale and Russell Crowe, then I’m sure people would be all for it!
