Denzel Washington’s The Great Debaters Trailer
Not much to say about this one I’m afraid. Denzel Washington is sitting in the director’s chair once again, relaying the true story of Melvin B. Tolson, a professor at Wiley College in Texas in the 30’s who helped kickstart one of the first African-American school debate teams. They went on to challenge Harvard in 1935. Washington’s first film Antwone Fisher, was generally well-received, and while I don’t really question the man’s ability to direct, this particular movie looks a bit too sappy and sentimental for my taste. The story seems like an uplifting one, I just don’t know how exciting it will be to see it unfold on screen. The Great Debaters co-stars Forest Whitaker and Kimberly Elise; look for it in theatres this Christmas.

I’m definitely going to have to check this movie out. I just saw American Gangster this weekend and I loved it. It was so different from The Bible Experience which I’ve been listening to at home. There’s a clip of it out now online. http://zondervan.blogspot.com/ I don’t think it’s available anywhere else. Check it out! Then if you see American Gangster, you’ll see what I was talking about…hard to imagine this guy playing two different roles so well.
