Shrek Goes Fourth and Gets a Christmas Special Too
Great, just what the world needs: more Shrek. After the overwhelming success of Shrek the Third ($121 million on its opening weekend alone!), there was little doubt that we’d be seeing more of the green guy on screen. Now we have official confirmation from Dreamworks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg that Shrek 4 is on the way, and it has been given both a title and a release date. Shrek Goes Fourth is set for release on May 21st 2010. Looking on the bright side, there’s a small possibility that the world may self-destruct before then.
As if that wasn’t enough, Shrek is invading our TV screens as well this month for his very own animated Christmas special. All the big name voices will return for Shrek The Halls, a half-hour program airing on ABC on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at 8 pm. The special was directed by Gary Trousdale (Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame). Katzenberg had this to say: “Family classics are a cornerstone of our brand, and Shrek The Halls will provide warm memories year-after-year, and be a great addition to our library of holiday favorites such as Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town and A Charlie Brown Christmas… The time has come to celebrate the joys of the holiday season with Shrek and his family, and see how Christmas would play out in his world.” Anyone want to make predictions on how it will play out? I’m guessing there will at least be a few Smashmouth Christmas songs on the soundtrack.
