Anthony Hopkins to Star in Alfred Hitchcock Biopic

It’s been 27 years since the death of Alfred Hitchcock, one of the most mysterious and influential filmmakers of all time, and yet surprisingly we have yet to see a biopic about the man on the big screen. Fortunately, it looks like that is about to change, with Ryan Murphy set to direct a film tentatively titled Alfred Hitchcock Presents and starring Anthony Hopkins in the lead role. Murphy is the man behind the FX series Nip/Tuck, and also the widely panned dark comedy Running With Scissors. I caught part of Running With Scissors on TMN a while back and it just seemed to be a bit of a mess overall, but I do think Murphy has talent and this could be a great way to prove himself. The movie will reportedly focus on the shooting of Psycho, Hitchcock’s most famous (and, at the time, controversial) flick. Hopkins seems like a pretty decent choice for the role, and in this short video interview he gives us a taste of Hitchcock’s distinctive voice. Not too shabby! Helen Mirren is also rumoured to be in talks to play Hitchcock’s wife. Consider me cautiously optimistic about this one. (Thanks to Henrik for the heads up!)

  1. The video’s not showing up for me, which is a shame as I can’t really picture Hopkins in this role for whatever reason and would like to be convinced otherwise.

  2. I’m excited. Everyone loves Hitchock’s films, and his personal life is fascinating, including his lack of a belly button. I think Anthony Hopkins could be great.
