Film Junk Video Review #6 – ‘Robinson Crusoe on Mars’
It’s been a while, but I’ve finally managed to pop out the sixth installment of the Film Junk Video Review. This time I’m looking at Byron Haskin’s ‘Robinson Crusoe on Mars’. The movie stars Paul Mantee, Victor Lundin, and features a brief appearance by Adam West! Here’s the synopsis:
Special-effects wunderkind and genre master Byron Haskin (The War of the Worlds, The Outer Limits) won a place in the hearts of fantasy-film lovers everywhere with this gorgeously designed journey into the unknown. When his spaceship crash-lands on the barren wastelands of Mars, U.S. astronaut Commander “Kit” Draper (Paul Mantee) must fight for survival, with a pet monkey seemingly his only companion. But is he alone? Shot in vast Techniscope and blazing Technicolor, Robinson Crusoe on Mars is an imaginative and beloved techni-marvel of classic science fiction.
The film was recently given the Criterion Collection treatment with a special edition DVD release. It was definitely a fun watch, so make sure you check out my review by following the link below.

Hey Jay,
Posted by MoriaOrc on October 18th, 2007How do you get your YouTube uploads to look so good? Most every thing even from a user say like NBC or something still have all these digital artifacts or just look plain muddy.
Glenn: Thanks for checking out the review. The Criterion release is definitely a great package.
MoriaOrc: I export my video using the H.264 compression codec when exporting from Final Cut Pro. Seems to work pretty well.
Thanks guys

Posted by Rian on October 18th, 2007Another great review. Will you do the Morris documentary that made Hertzog eat a shoe next? I remember you telling that story on a podcast and it sounds like an awesome documentary I’d like to see a review preview.
