Will Smith and Son Not Doing Karate Kid Remake
Last month we mentioned a wild rumour about Will Smith’s production company looking to kickstart a remake of The Karate Kid with his son Jaden in the starring role. It certainly seemed unlikely, what with his son being only 9 years old and all, but then we started to hear talk that maybe it would happen with a different actor in the lead. Hey, you never know, right? Well, this week we have discovered that the whole story was pretty much bogus. No big surprise, but at least all the children of the 80’s can now breathe a sigh of relief as one of their childhood memories will remain unblemished for the time being.
Will Smith’s publicist responded to queries about a Karate Kid remake with this short statement: “He’s certainly not. I don’t know where that came from.” She confirmed instead that his next projects will be Seven Pounds (a drama about a man who falls in love with a woman trying to kill herself), Time Share (a family comedy co-starring Nicolas Cage), followed by Michael Mann’s Empire (he plays a global media mogul). So let’s put this rumour to bed. And no, Jackie Chan was never going to play Mr. Miyagi either!

I’m excited for his third-next movie which I’m sure will arrive come Oscar time 2009! Great!
