McG to Direct Terminator 4?
I haven’t been particularly impressed with any of the news I’ve been hearing about the upcoming Terminator 4 project thus far. I’ve mentioned before my concerns about watering down the Terminator franchise (with 3 new sequels planned, not to mention the new TV series), and it seems that with the direction that T4 is going in, it may be better if we already start trying to block it out of our minds. The latest scuttlebutt from CHUD is that Charlie’s Angels director McG is in talks to direct. While I have nothing against the Charlie’s Angels movies specifically, I simply don’t see him as being the right man for the job. Not only does he come from a slick music video background (not always a bad thing in itself), but the majority of his work just seems tailor-made for trendy teens.
Regardless, The Halcyon Company is really pushing to get this thing out before the strike, which means (like a lot of other movies in the next year or so) there’s a good chance it’s going to feel rushed and sloppy. Last week there was also a rumour going around that Rachel Weisz and Chloe Sevigny were frontrunners for the female lead in the new film. Again, I like both actresses, but at this point I have to wonder how they can possibly make this feel like a Terminator movie. Bottom line: we’re looking at a big budget fan film. No thanks.
