The more I see the trailer at the theaters, the more pumped up I am to see this. It seems like this movie is going to play out like a silent film in a way, which I think would be cool. Probably wrong though :/

See, I thought it reached exactly the same level of quality as all the other Pixar movies I have seen.

This movie will be huge though. I’m sure Leonardo DiCaprio will tell parents they have to see it, as will Al Gore, based on how CLEVERLY it treats such a serious subject matter.

I hope you don’t expect them to release a full-length trailer right NOW, I mean the movie’s coming out in June 2008, obviously they’re going to be teasing us right now. I don’t even want the full trailer yet, I’d be tired of it by the time June ‘08 rolls around! I’ve loved what I’ve seen so far of Wall-E and I do have a lot of faith in Pixar that this is going to be a good one. And when you ask whether this will “hold the attention of the kiddies,” I say why not AND that it seems like the audience here is not just kids…it sounds like a serious and kind of adult premise to me. I read somewhere that Lasseter said he doesn’t make his movies for a demo, he makes them because he wants to make movies. I love that sentiment.

Henrik, I hope you’re joking. Even if you don’t like Cars (and I know that a good number of people don’t), you have to admit that that movie is not just a bunch of races around a track. In fact, there are only really race tracks at the very beginning and very end of that movie. Even if Cars didn’t reach the same level of quality as the other Pixar films, it still had a story with sentiment and comedy just like all the others.

As far as the Wall-E teaser is concerned, it’s a movie about a robot, so we see the robot. The original teaser for Cars, as I said, just showed a bunch of cars. The original teaser for Ratatouille just showed a rat running around. We’re not looking at anything terribly different from any previous Pixar ad campaign here.

Derek, sounds like Pixar has the post-apocalyptic bug too! I’m hooked based on Lasseter comment. The trailer, however, wasn’t very impressive except to show that Wall-E is harmless.

You have to keep in mind that we’re only seeing teasers so far. Seeing about 60 seconds of a presumably 90 minute movie can’t really give away much. Really all the trailer lets us know is that there’s a robot who’s cute and is nice to bugs. Based on what we know right now, this plot could go anywhere. Remember the teaser for Cars? It was just a bunch of…well, cars riding around a track. This is the same basic idea. Feed our imaginations as to what the movie could be, then dazzle us later with what it is. I can’t wait.

Yeah, it sounds a bit like Idiocracy I suppose. The premise definitely seems high concept for a Pixar movie, which I’m okay with. I’m just unclear on what will actually happen in the movie. So far we have two characters in space, one of which doesn’t really talk, and they fall in love. BORING! But okay, you’re right, it’s not the typical mainstream animated film, so I’m keeping an open mind.

“WALL-E is the story of the last little robot on Earth. He is a robot [and was programmed] to help clean up. You see, it’s set way in the future. Through consumerism, rampant, unchecked consumerism, the Earth was covered with trash. And to clean up, everyone had to leave Earth and set in place millions of these little robots that went around to clean up the trash and make Earth habitable again.

Well, the cleanup program failed with the exception of this one little robot and he’s left on Earth doing his duty all alone. But it’s not a story about science fiction. It’s a love story, because, you see, WALL-E falls in love with [Eve], a robot from a probe that comes down to check on Earth, and she’s left there to check and see how things are going and he absolutely falls in love with her.”

Definitely some strong, direct Miyazaki influence here (we know they love the guy, but daaamn). And if that premise isn’t exciting, especially for a mainstream, _animated_, American film… well I don’t know what is.

Also, check out the dummy website for the “Buy n Large”, the futuristic box store that typifies the direction America is heading in their vision of the future….

I don’t know how serious I really was with that comment. All I’m saying is that so far is that the movie seems very… sparse. But I’m pretty sure Pixar will do everything they need to make it a huge hit… they’ve got it down to a science now.
