Double the Dragons: D-War Sequel On The Way

Despite lacklustre reviews, epic Korean monster movie D-War (released stateside as Dragon Wars) looks to have already been successful enough to earn itself a sequel. According to Twitch, director Shim Hyung-rae revealed this fact during a recent news conference at the Korean Cultural Center in New York. They are hoping to fast-track the sequel and have it in theatres by Summer 2009. Thus far, D-War has earned over $8 million in North America… it may not sound like much, but The Host earned only $2 million by comparison. (However, clearly D-War had an advantage since it was released in 2000 theatres, whereas The Host was released in only 100!) The bottom line, I think, is that for a lot of people you simply can’t make a bad monster movie. Even if they turn out bad… you can still enjoy them on some level. I’m assuming D-War may fall into that category although I have yet to see it myself. Do you think D-War deserves a sequel? Incidentally, The Host is also getting a sequel, along with an American remake.

  1. I have no interest in D-War. It just looks bad to me. The Host, however, I found to be quite good. I’ll see a sequel if they make it, but I really don’t think an American remake is necessary.

  2. This movie was pretty horrible, but I kinda had fun watching it. Laughing at all the wrong places, but having no reservations about it is great. Probably would be a cool drive-in movie. You know if it was by the same director/writer and actors and I’d actually be down to watch the sequel since I know exactly what I’m getting.
