Shake Hands With The Devil Trailer

Terry George’s harrowing drama Hotel Rwanda told the disturbing story of the massive genocide that took place in Rwanda in the 90’s, and one of the few men who tried to make a difference. The film was nominated for three Academy Awards, and received great critical acclaim. The same year, the documentary Shake Hands with the Devil: The Journey of Roméo Dallaire was released, based on the book by Dallaire, who was the Canadian lieutenant general that lead the doomed U.N. mission in Rwanda. Now we’re going back to Rwanda once again as there is a new fictionalized feature film in the works based on Dallaire’s story called simply Shake Hands With The Devil. This one is directed by Roger Spottiswoode (Tomorrow Never Dies, Turner & Hooch, Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot), and stars Roy Dupuis (The Rocket) as Lt. Gen. Dallaire. Bowling For Columbine producer Michael Donovan is the producer and screenwriter for the project as well. It’s a Canadian production and while the story is a powerful one, I can’t help but think the movie is a bit redundant at this point. I guess the one thing it has going for it is that it seems to be based a bit more on fact than Hotel Rwanda was, but if you have to choose, I’d just go rent the documentary anyway. Shake Hands With The Devil hits select theatres on September 28th; check out the trailer below.
