Monday Morning Box Office Report: Sept. 24, 2007

It was no big surprise that Resident Evil: Extinction cleaned up at the box office with a somewhat decent $24 million weekend. I was a bit surprised, however, that Good Luck Chuck managed to bring in $14 million despite horrible reviews and a confusing marketing campaign. The Brave One and 3:10 To Yuma continued to earn, mostly likely due to strong word of mouth, meanwhile David Cronenberg’s Eastern Promises took home $5.75 million in its first weekend with a wide release. Clearly the season of the blockbuster is behind us, but where are those fall sleeper hits?

1. Resident Evil: Extinction — $24M
2. Good Luck Chuck — $14M
3. The Brave One — $7.42M
4. 3:10 to Yuma — $6.35M
5. Eastern Promises — $5.75M
6. Sydney White — $5.32M
7. Mr. Woodcock — $4.97M
8. Superbad — $3.1M
9. The Bourne Ultimatum — $2.79M
10. D-War — $2.51M
