Rusty Nail is Back for Joy Ride: End of the Road

“Are you there Candy Cane?” I have a huge soft spot for the suspense thriller Joy Ride, in which Steve Zahn, Paul Walker and Leelee Sobieski become hunted by a psychotic truck driver after messing with him on their CB radio. The concept was so ludicrous, and the voice of villain “Rusty Nail” so over the top, that I couldn’t help but love it. Plus it actually had some good scares, and it’s a little known fact that Lost/Alias creator J.J. Abrams co-wrote the flick.

So now it looks like there’s a low budget sequel in the works called Joy Ride: End of the Road, which will focus on 4 would-be concertgoers who are targetted by Rusty Nail after they decide to steal a car that belongs to him while stranded on the way to Vegas. The cast and director have yet to be announced, but it’s being written by James Robert Johnston and Farrelly Bros collaborator Bennett Yellin (Dumb and Dumber, Stuck On You). Why do I have a feeling this one’s going direct to DVD?

  1. I also have a strange, unexplainable interest in the first Joyride. I’d been hearing rumors that a sequel was coming for a while now. Here’s hoping that it’s good, though I’m not holding my breath.
