Will Ferrell and Adam McKay Land HBO Series

These days it seems like there are two comedy teams vying for Hollywood supremacy. If we’re not hearing about a new project coming from Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen, then odds are we’re hearing something coming from Will Ferrell and writer/director Adam McKay (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby). The two currently have a new comedy in the works called Step Brothers, and earlier in the year they launched a viral video site called Funny or Die, with a short film that starred McKay’s toddler daughter Pearl. Now comes word that HBO has picked up a new TV pilot that their production company has been shopping around called East Bound and Down.

HBO have ordered a 6-episode first season for the series, which centers on a former major league pitcher who gets a job as a substitute gym teacher. Ferrell and McKay are executive producers but were not directly involved in the pilot. Instead it was directed by Jody Hill (The Foot Fist Way) and stars Danny McBride (All The Real Girls, Hot Rod). Hey, maybe we’ll get a cameo from Pearl McKay in there somewhere too. The series will be filmed in North Carolina, no word yet on when it might be ready to air. It’s hard to say whether or not the series has potential at this point, but consider me interested.
