Sean Is On Vacation

Hey guys, as you may be aware, I’m heading over to the U.K. for some sightseeing and some R&R, so I won’t be posting anything for the next week or so. Luckily, you’ll still have Jay and Greg to keep you updated in the world of film while I’m gone. Jay will be recording the podcast on his own this weekend, and if the stars align, there may even be a special guest appearance from Film Junk fan favourite Darth Nameless. Be sure to send in plenty of junk mail to give them something to talk about.

Greg, on the other hand, is going to be in Toronto for the next little while covering the Toronto International Film Festival. He’ll be posting daily updates about his screenings, celeb sightings and run-ins with Roger Ebert. Below I have collected his updates from last year’s film fest, just to give you a taste of what’s in store.

  1. Have fun on vacation!

  2. Hey, why did Sean assume I was going to make a special appearance? Seems like whatever Sean says comes to pass, so I guess I’ll have to book my plane ticket and crash at his domicile with his roomies while he’s on vacation.

Sean, I was going to suggest going to the Museum of the Moving Image in London, but apparently, it’s closed for redevelopment. In the early 90s, I think it was the largest museum devoted to film past, present and future. Don’t know which museum holds that distinction now, but apparently there’s a Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, New York that’s been open since 1988, so maybe the one in London wasn’t the largest.

I visited the one in London in the early 90s. Can’t recall too much. I think they had one of the original King Kong armatures from the Willis O’Brien version. Or maybe it was a reproduction. I remember it looking way better than the one Peter Jackson currently has in his possession. And I remember a big white plaster hand with fake spiders crawling all over it. Yeah, I have a really poor memory, but you know, ever since I fell into the lava pit…

Anyone else been to either location?

  3. I am looking forward very much both to the show and to the TIFF updates.

What happened to the scuba picture?
