I wasn’t too sure whether or not I wanted to post about this because it seems awfully gossipy, but in the end, it answered some questions I personally had floating around in my head so I figure maybe it will do the same for you too. The Wachowski Brothers, directors of The Matrix trilogy, have always shied away from the spotlight. They rarely do interviews, and after The Matrix films, they even stopped directing movies for a while, choosing to work through James McTeigue instead. A couple years ago there was a rumour that started floating around about one of the brothers, Larry, being a cross-dresser and being involved in some weird fetish stuff. I didn’t think anything of it at the time, but it did sort of explain why they were so afraid of being in the public eye. Either way, it certainly didn’t affect my view of his creative work.

Well now from Rated-M, comes the word that Larry Wachowski has pretty much been officially replaced by Lana Wachowski. That’s right, Larry had a sex change, and he is now a she. Lana is expected to make a public statement at some point in the near future (Dateline NBC reportedly has an exclusivity deal on her first interview), but it won’t be until after Speed Racer is released since they don’t want to taint the family-friendly vibe of the film. All I can say is that it’s a pretty brave thing to step forward like this, but I’m glad to hear that the Wachowskis won’t have to live in secrecy anymore.
