Hot Fuzz 3-Disc Collector’s Edition DVD Due in November
When it comes to DVD releases, I always try to keep my eyes open for potential double dips. When a popular movie is released with no bonus material whatsoever, you know it’s a prime candidate to receive a special edition soon afterward. But for some movies, there just aren’t any warning signs, and when that new version gets announced, you can’t help but feel a bit cheated. This week Universal announced a new 3-Disc Collector’s Edition for Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright’s Hot Fuzz, due to hit stores only a few months after the original disc was released. I knew that the HD-DVD version of the movie was loaded with extra stuff that the standard DVD didn’t have, but somehow I didn’t expect another version so soon.
Here are the specs:
Disc 1: Main Feature
- Audio Commentary with Simon Pegg & Edgar Wright

Disc 3: Extra Features

Well, if you don’t have access to an HD-DVD player, this is one hell of a package. (Apparently Wal-Mart also had an exclusive release of Hot Fuzz that came with a second disc containing much of this extra stuff too.) The most interesting thing is “Dead Right”, a 40 minute film directed by Edgar Wright when he was a teenager, that served as the inspiration for Hot Fuzz. The 3rd disc in this release does seem a bit sketchy though, and I question whether it’s actually necessary. The Hot Fuzz Collector’s Edition hits stores on November 27th.
