The Descent 2 In The Works
What would a successful horror movie be without the inevitable sequel? You know, one day I’d really like to find out. Unfortunately Neil Marshall’s brilliant horror flick The Descent looks like it will be the next one to get a watered down continuation. Why do I think it will be watered down? Well, for starters, because Neil Marshall himself is not directing. He does, however, promise that he will be “overseeing every aspect of the production” once the script has been written. Taking his place in the director’s chair will be The Descent editor Jon Harris (he also edited Snatch, Layer Cake and Stardust, although he has never directed a film). It seems like a bit of a weird choice — after all, you don’t often hear about editors becoming directors. But I suppose if Neil Marshall trusts him so much, it must count for something. Personally I’m much more interested to see what Marshall himself does next with his upcoming film Doomsday.

I really wasn’t a big fan of The Descent. I found the scenes in which the characters were stuck in tiny places deep underground more frightening/suspenseful than anything dealing with the creatures. Not looking forward to this. Doomsday, however? Malcolm McDowell? Bob Hoskins? The end of the world? Sign me up.
