Mitsubishi Unveils Plans for 3D Blu-ray Player

Still haven’t decided whether to support HD-DVD or Blu-ray? Maybe this will help you choose. Mitsubishi recently revealed plans for a special Blu-ray player that can actually convert any regular Blu-ray movie to a three-dimensional display. Apparently they already have a working prototype of the technology, although it does require the viewer to wear special glasses. With more 3D movies starting to find their way into theatres again, it will be interesting to see if there is a market for this. I must admit, I’m pretty curious, although it does sound like a bit of a gimmick. It obviously won’t be true 3D, so I’m a bit puzzled as to how they will simulate the effect and how good it will look. Are movies really better in 3D? Is this something you would buy? I don’t think it will necessarily win anyone over to the side of Blu-ray, but hey… if you’re going to buy a Blu-ray player anyway, and the price is right… why not!
