Keanu Barada Nikto: Reeves To Star in The Day The Earth Stood Still Remake

The first casting news is finally starting to trickle out about the upcoming remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still, one of the most famous science-fiction films of all time. It seems that Mr. Keanu Reeves has managed to get himself linked to yet another massive geek tentpole: he will star as Klaatu, the alien who arrives from space to warn humanity to lay down its arms and put an end to war.

I’m totally cool with Keanu in this role since his trademark monotone delivery would stay true to the original (assuming, of course, they want this remake to be campy too). Seriously though, I’m very curious to see what they do with the project. The original was shot in black and white and is over 50 years old now, so it certainly qualifies for an update. I just see so many ways that they could go wrong with it. The screenplay for the new version was written by David Scarpa (The Last Castle), and Keanu Reeves’ manager Erwin Stoff is on board as one of the producers. No word yet on a director… who do you think would be the right man for the job?

  1. I’ll give my left nut if this remake doesn’t refer to the war in Iraq or at least drops a few allegories to the war.
