Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly to Star in Adam McKay’s Step Brothers

When it comes to movies, I generally don’t like to see talented actors and directors repeat themselves, but at the same time, there are certain actors and directors who work so well together that it would be a shame to keep them apart. I find that within the realm of comedy especially, there is often a certain chemistry that results when you assemble the right people where they are able to play off each other and push each other to be funnier. I think this is the case with the movie Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Will Ferrell and writer/director Adam McKay seem to share the same wacky sense of humour, and the result is one of the funniest flicks in recent memory. Then they went on to do Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby together, and added another great element to the mix: John C. Reilly. Now all three are set to return for the new film, Step Brothers.

According to IMDb, the plot revolves around two spoiled guys who end up becoming super competitive stepbrothers after their single parents hook up. I can already see the path laid here for another comedic gem; Reilly and Ferrell’s competition with each other in Talladega Nights was a great dynamic in the film. The cast is rounded out by Mary Steenburgen, Adam Scott, Kathryn Hahn and Andrea Savage, and of course, Judd Apatow as producer is merely the icing on the cake. Step Brothers starts shooting next month with a planned release date of July 25th, 2008.
