Weirdsville Trailer Starring Scott Speedman and Wes Bentley

Man, Weirdsville is right. A trailer has just arrived online for the newest film from Allan Moyle (Pump Up The Volume, Empire Records) and it is a pretty strange little flick… or at least it’s trying really hard to be one. Two stoners named Royce and Dexter run into some trouble when Royce’s girlfriend OD’s on their stash. So they decide to dump her body in the basement of an abandoned drive-in theatre, only to find out that a Satanic cult performs ritual sacrifices there. BOGUS. The trailer is pretty confusing and unfocused, and while that may be an indication of the “tweaked out” style that Moyle is going for with this movie, it didn’t really do much for me. But who knows, maybe it will be the new Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. Weirdsville hits select theatres on October 5th; for more info check out the official site.

  1. I don’t know. If I don’t care about any of the characters at best I’ll find their pain funny (in the typical sick dark way). This movie might be funny like that. OR it might play it seriously and be like Requiem For A Dream which was masterfully made but had no charcter sympathies and so came off as pretentious and melodramatic rather than emotionally powerful in my opinion.

  2. The film plays a bit goofy, good performances by the leads (the supporting players, less so) but it keeps everything low key. Overstylization becomes a problem at certain points and this is never going to be a cult or classic stoner/slacker/one-night flick, but its worth your 90 minutes.
