This Week on DVD – Aug. 21, 2007

On DVD this week we’re looking at mostly TV box sets and special editions, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t still some worthwhile stuff to buy and/or rent. As far as television goes there is the first season of Showtime’s Dexter, the first season of the popular comedy Ugly Betty, Season 3 of House, and the 10th Season of South Park. On the special edition front we have double dips of Robocop, Serenity and Rob Zombie’s first two films. But if you ask me, the two most interesting releases of the week are Reel Talent: First Films from Legendary Directors and the German film The Lives of Others, which beat out Pan’s Labyrinth for best foreign language film at last year’s Academy Awards.

Dexter: Season 1
Ugly Betty: The Complete First Season (The Bettyfied Edition)
Robocop: 20th Anniversary Edition
Serenity: Collector’s Edition
House: Season 3
Reel Talent: First Films from Legendary Directors
The Dark Backward: Special Edition
House of Games (Criterion)
The Milky Way (Criterion)
Redline
The Lives of Others (DVD, Blu-ray)
Perfect Stranger (DVD, Blu-ray)
The Rob Zombie Collection (3-Disc)
JAG: Season 4
South Park: The Complete Tenth Season
National Lampoon’s Van Wilder (Blu-ray)
Immortal Beloved (Blu-ray)

  1. The Lives of Others is a must-see. Really deserved that Oscar.

  2. The Lives of Others was a sappy piece of shit. It’s definitely right up the alley of all you Steven Spielberg-smitten people.
