The CW’s Reaper Trailer Directed by Kevin Smith

I have to admit, when I first heard about the upcoming TV series Reaper, I thought it was going to be a bad Dead Like Me rip-off. Story-wise there are definitely some similarities; the show’s protagonist is a young man named Sam who is required to work as Satan’s bounty hunter, tracking down souls that have escaped from Hell. But in terms of tone, it feels a lot more like a straight-up comedy, almost reminiscent of Shaun of the Dead (not that it’s British or anything). This extended 5 minute trailer may not have had me laughing out loud, but it did have me sort of snickering to myself… so that’s something, right? The show premieres on September 25th on The CW with the Kevin Smith-directed pilot episode. On a related note, Smith will also be directing an episode of Heroes: Origins next year. Hey, maybe this guy was really cut out for TV in the first place. 1. I admit, I cracked a smile a few times when the devil was onscreen. The rest of it seems kind of dim. I can’t really see this staying interesting past a few episodes.

  2. Kevin Smith is a genius, I’d love to see him pull through with this one. You can sure see his fingerprints all over it. I can’t wait to see it!

  3. looks funny as hell..wtg kevin! – it does remind me a bit of Ghostbusters.

  4. This show looks like shit. Seriously, fucking terrible. Kevin Smith stopped being funny 5 years ago. Fucking awful.
