The Last Winter Trailer Starring Ron Perlman

Well he may have starred in Hellboy, but let’s face it… Ron Perlman is not exactly an A-list Hollywood actor. Nor would I want him to be; he just seems perfectly suited to the realm of b-movies, and as Bruce Campbell will tell you, there’s nothing undignified about making a living there. There’s a new low budget horror movie coming out next month that stars Perlman called The Last Winter. High art it ain’t, but I do think it looks kind of fun.

The story is about a group of oil drillers who are sent to Northern Alaska to establish a drilling base, only to find that there is something evil lurking under the frozen tundra. The setting gives major flashbacks to John Carpenter’s The Thing: isolation in the icy arctic wastes is definitely a good start for any horror flick. The trailer is quite eerie and effective, although it can’t entirely mask the stiff acting that I’m sure permeates this film. The attempt at a night vision scare in the vein of The Descent and 28 Weeks Later also doesn’t seem to work that well, but what do you expect? The Last Winter was directed by Larry Fessenden, director of Wendigo, not to mention Jaws and Chinatown! (Nope, not the same Jaws and Chinatown you are thinking of.) The Last Winter hits select theatres on September 19th. Check out the official website for more info.
