It’s amazing what a difference a trailer can make when it comes to one’s perceptions of a film. We first saw a trailer for Doug Lefler’s pseudo-historic epic The Last Legion on Google Video a while back, and at the time it looked pretty budget. This weekend I caught a new trailer for the film in theatres and it looked like a completely different film! All of a sudden they’re tying it into the legend of King Arthur and Excalibur, and it almost seems to have some historic basis to it… which of course is a pretty big stretch. At any rate, it seems that Thomas Sangster plays a young Augustus but the rest of the cast are fictional characters as far as I know. Don’t get me wrong, I still think the movie is going to bomb big time, but it’s an interesting comparison to look at the new trailer and how they managed to boost the credibility of it and mask some of the budgetary constraints.
