Bruce Campbell to Direct Spider-Man 4?
Well, here’s a wacky Friday rumour that I don’t believe for even half a second. With all the criticism of Spider-Man 3, and all the talk of Sam Raimi moving on to direct something else (whether it be The Hobbit, or The Clash of the Titans remake, or something else), it sounds like he may be taking on strictly a producer role for Spider-Man 4. This leads us to wonder who might fill his shoes as the director of the next installment in this massive franchise. Well according to Cinema Blend, an inside source claims that Raimi’s successor may be “a friend who has directed for him before; someone who has been involved in these kinds of movies before, but not as a director… yet”. Of course, the next logical leap is to assume that Raimi’s buddy Bruce Campbell is going to be the one taking over in his place.
Let’s be clear on one thing here… there is no freaking way that Marvel or Sony would place such a big movie in the hands of Bruce Campbell! The only movie he has directed so far is the low budget flick Man with the Screaming Brain, and everyone I know who has seen the thing (yes, even hardcore Bruce Campbell fans) claim it is a pile of crap. The only reason Campbell even has a few cameos in the Spider-Man movies is because of Raimi, but to sell a studio on his directorial ability would be next to impossible. So who could this mysterious friend be? Could it be brother Ivan? No, he hasn’t directed anything before. What about Josh Becker, director of Alien Apocalypse and Thou Shalt Not Kill… Except? That sounds equally far fetched. I think I am at a loss. Anyone else have any ideas?

Now you are perpetrating a rumor about a rumor. Didn’t you see the immediate retraction by CinemaBlend LAST NIGHT!
UPDATE: We have been told by the same source that it is not Bruce Campbell. So much for that detective work. So we’re back to looking for someone who has worked with Raimi, directed for him, but not in this genre. Ted Raimi hasn’t done direction. Rob Tapert only directed some television… we’ll keep looking.
Posted by Larry on August 3rd, 2007The only logical person would be Scott Spiegel. Scott is a very talented director and has made some very fun movies. Scott has also directed Sam in, “Intruder” (aka Nightcrew). I, for one, wouldn’t mind Spiegel directing it. This would free up Sam to do something new and also keep the Spiderman films with the Michagan crew.
Cheers
