Maxim Magazine Teaming with Sony to Produce Sex Comedies
Maxim Magazine, a respected publication full of intelligent articles and high-brow discourse on world affairs, is now getting into the business of making movies. They have reportedly teamed up with Sony Screen Gems for a three-picture deal, the first of which will be a classy art-house piece called Maxim’s Virginity Rocks, about a female transfer student who convinces all the girls at her new school to stop putting out, posing a major challenge for the school’s biggest male heartthrob. The other two films are called Fired Up (about two guys trying to get laid at a cheerleading camp) and Mardi Gras (’nuff said). I for one can’t wait to see what clever and hilarious scenarios they manage to come up with in these films, they are exactly what the world needs right now. Okay, all kidding aside, the Maxim brand could potentially be a pretty strong draw for young males, so from a business standpoint, this is probably pretty smart. I don’t know if I see these flicks being anything more than direct to video fare, however. Will Maxim become the new National Lampoon?
