Monday Morning Box Office Report: July 30, 2007

It should come as no surprise that The Simpsons Movie completely wiped out the competition this weekend at the box office. Fans flocked to theatres in droves backed by a strong positive critical response and helped bring in $71 million, which was good enough for the 23rd on the all-time opening weekend box office list. There have been 5 other movies so far this year that placed within the Top 25 for opening weekends, so I think as far as theatre owners are concerned, business has been very good. I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry had another good weekend, as did Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Hairspray. No Reservations, the Aaron Eckhart/Catherine Zeta-Jones romantic comedy rounded out the top 5. The Lindsay Lohan thriller I Know Who Killed Me managed to net $3.4 million, while Who’s Your Caddy? managed $2.9 million, both in considerably less theatres.
