Joe Carnahan to Direct Real-Life Version of Medellin?

What is it with Entourage and the rumours that it inspires regarding real-life reflections of what happens on the show? First there was talk of an actual Aquaman film happening, inspired by the James Cameron blockbuster that was featured during season 2 of the HBO series… unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) that doesn’t seem to be materializing. Now it appears that there is a real-life Pablo Escobar biopic is in the works, to be directed by Joe Carnahan (Smokin’ Aces). As it turns out, the movie (called Killing Pablo) was in development long before Medellin turned up on Entourage, but there is speculation that the Entourage plug could help build momentum for the project as Carnahan’s next movie following White Jazz. Carnahan’s number one choice to play Escobar is reportedly Javier Bardem, who is getting rave reviews for a powerful performance in the Coen Brothers’ No Country For Old Men. That could also bode well for the project. But is it good or bad that Entourage fans will have Medellin in the back of their head? It’s like Killing Pablo will become a movie based on a movie within a TV show that is based on the movie industry. That’s enough trippy self-referential meta craziness to make your head spin.
