Stephen Chow is Kato in The Green Hornet?
Well, this whole Green Hornet thing just got a lot more interesting. It was announced yesterday that Seth Rogen would be co-producing, co-writing and starring in a new Green Hornet feature film, which was surprising enough, but now comes word that Rogen’s first choice for Kato is none other than Stephen Chow, writer/director/star of such internationally hailed comedies as Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle. I have to admit, it sounds almost too perfect. At the very least, it confirms the idea that the movie will primarily be a comedy, but we all know that when it comes to martial arts, Chow has a mean roundhouse kick of his own.
Although there is no guarantee that an offer has even gone out, or that Chow would actually sign on (he’s in the middle of production on another film of his own right now I believe) , but since Rogen is co-producing I would imagine there is a good chance this could happen. It would be a pretty brilliant marketing move too, because Chow’s involvement would guarantee the success of this film overseas. I am totally stoked about the possibilities… the only question I have is, who should direct? Either Chow or Rogen could potentially take the reins, but I am racking my brain trying to think of a better match. It’s too bad Jon Favreau is already busy with Iron Man because I think he could have pulled it off. Maybe… Brett Ratner? Anyone?
