We Own The Night Trailer Starring Mark Wahlberg and Joaquin Phoenix

The Italian mob is out, and the Russian mafia is in! I swear this is the third or fourth time I’ve heard about a movie that involves the Russian mafia this year, but all things considered We Own The Night looks like a great film. Robert Duvall and Mark Walhberg play a father and son cop team who are waging war against organized crime in 1980’s New York City, while his other son (Joaquin Phoenix) is a club owner who turns a blind eye toward illegal activities. He tries desperately to hide his ties to the NYPD, because if the secret gets out, both his business and his life could be at an end. Watching the trailer for this movie, The Departed definitely comes to mind, what with the family connection and the involvement of Mark Wahlberg. It’s always great to see Marky Mark as a cop, but personally I was just happy to see Joaquin playing a seedy character once again; it’s been a long while since his great performances in Gladiator and Buffalo Soldiers. We Own The Night is directed by James Gray, whose previous film The Yards also starred Wahlberg and Phoenix. It is slated to hit theatres on October 12th.

  1. I thought this looked pretty spiffy when I first saw it and you’re absolutely right about the Russion mafia bit. Actually, “You Kill Me” pits the Polaks against the Italians.

  2. Sean,

The Italian mafia is far from out. We are very much around. Be careful with what you say.

  3. The Yards is a wicked movie. If this is going to be half as good, I’ll be first in line.

  4. Joaquin Phoenix is amazing, can’t wait to see him on the big screen again. And I agree, I love him as the charismatic, questionable party boy. It just looks so good on him.
