Sci-Fi Channel Considering They Live: The TV Series?

How awesome would this be? According to Moviehole, there are rumours of a TV series in the works based on John Carpenter’s cult classic They Live. The Sci-Fi Channel has reportedly been sniffing around such a project, inquiring about possibilities. It wouldn’t be the first time they tried to turn a John Carpenter movie into a show; back around 2003 they had plans for a mini-series sequel to The Thing — unfortunately it never materialized. I have my doubts about whether or not this would have a better shot at getting produced, but no one can deny how great it would be to see Rowdy Roddy Piper in the spotlight once again. He is, of course, completely interested in the idea. In fact, he also happens to be the main source of this rumour, I believe, which does limit its credibility a bit. Still, one can hope.

In other John Carpenter-related news, there is talk that the man may finally come out of semi-retirement to direct something other than a Masters of Horror episode. He is supposedly prepping a new film called L.A. Gothic, which involves “a priest and his teenage daughter… vampires, zombies and a demon-possesed rock-star”. NICE.

  1. I would actually disagree with the lack of a The Thing series being unfortunate. Personally I feel pretty fortunate that it never got made. I really wish people would just leave that movie alone. I don’t want to see the Norwegian base get attacked, I don’t want to see a new group of people fight the creature, and I sure as hell don’t want to know if either MacReady or Childs was infected at the end of the film. Carpenter himself doesn’t know, so why should anyone else?

  2. Because Carpenter is a greedy son of a bitch.

  3. Hello from CN!

What about the Rumors with Kurt Russell in L.A. Gothic?

It would be… fantastic! I love both Carpenter and Russell.
