59th Annual Emmy Award Nominees Announced
For as long as I can remember, the Emmy Awards have never been given nearly as much attention as the Academy Awards or even the Golden Globes. I guess it’s indicative of how people feel about television compared to movies; TV is just daytime fluff, while film is considered the true art form. I’d like to think that view has been changing, albeit rather slowly, with the help of HBO and also the rise in quality of network programming as well. That said, one problem with the Emmys is that there are rarely any surprises. The most popular shows are generally the ones that win the awards year after year, and actors and actresses often get nominated for the same role as long as their given show remains on the air. Still, there’s something to be said for consistency, no? Here are some of the nominees in major categories for this year’s Emmy Awards:

I left out the mini-series and made for TV movies just because most people probably don’t care, but you can see the complete list of nominees here. All I gotta say is, Heroes gets nominated for Best Drama and Lost doesn’t?? Please. Not like it matters, The Sopranos is expected to clean up this year. It’s nice to see Entourage getting some recognition too. Are there any major oversights that you can think of? The 59th Annual Emmy Awards will air on Fox on Sunday, September 16th, at 8 PM EST.

I really hope 30 Rock wins in the comedy category.
I thought Boston Legal was a comedy too, just because it’s an hour instead of a half hour doesn’t make it a drama.
Posted by mike on July 19th, 2007I watch essentially all of my television on DVD aside from LOST and Dexter, and I don’t really watch much as it is, but Ricky Gervais had better damn well win for actor in a comedy series. Also, where is Dexter? That is the best show on television these days in my opinion, and it’s nowhere to be found in the nominees.
Posted by Rian on July 19th, 2007Outstanding Music, Variety or Comedy Series better go to the Daily Show. Jon Stewart is the sole reason that I miss having cable.
Posted by ISO100 on July 19th, 2007Desperate Housewives is a comedy? Really?
With all due respect to Ricky Gervais and all of the other nominees in the Best Actor in a comedy award…nobody can hold a candle to Alec Baldwin. He’s a comedic genius. Anyone who watches SNL still knows that he’s the must watch host.
I also enjoy Scrubs and am confused as to why John C. McGinley is never nominated as a supporting actor.

Posted by snorfle on July 19th, 2007Yeah Dexter was a big oversight, although it did get some Golden Globe nominations I think.
