What the– Some Kid is Replacing Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura?

Last year we reported on the rumours of a third Ace Ventura: Pet Detective film, which at the time seemed like a pretty bad idea. I’ll admit that the first movie was pretty funny back in 1994, but it has since become horribly dated and mostly forgotten. Now it looks like Ace Ventura 3 is indeed happening, and now they’ve got a director and a star lined up to prove it. The film will be directed by David Mickey Evans (The Sandlot, Beethoven’s 3rd and 4th), and it will star — get this — 12 year old Josh Flitter (Nancy Drew, License to Wed). In case you haven’t guessed, Jim Carrey will not be involved and the story will focus on the prodigal son of Ace Ventura, who also apparently has a way with animals. Hey, nothing against young Flitter, but can he really carry this movie? I’m sure he was hilarious in License to Wed, but I somehow doubt this is going to bring in the audiences. I suppose if they market it strictly as a kids’ movie then maybe it has a shot, but then why use the name of a franchise that is older than its lead actor? It sounds just plain crazy to me.

  1. I think that a new Ace Ventura movie could work, but only if Carrey were in it. I’m not sure that I agree that the original is dated. I can watch it today and still find it hilarious.

  2. I can’t imagine why on earth they would bother making this movie in the first place, but the kid has a weirdly awesome sense of comic timing in both Nancy Drew and License To Wed that might work. I’m actually waiting for the announcement that this will get released straight to DVD, to be honest.

  3. I’m betting it’s a straight to DVD release too. Man would I love to Carrey back though. We need him to get back to what he was brilliant at, physical comedy. his off shoots into drama territory was enjoyably distracting for a few years but now we need to see the genius again, the stuff we know he has.

I dunno who this kid is, but i already wanna punch him in the face.
