Halo Arms Race Digital Short Directed by Neill Blomkamp
Halo movie doubters, prepare to be proven wrong. (Sort of.) Peter Jackson wasn’t quite ready to give up on his golden boy Neill Blomkamp even when Universal and Fox pulled out of the project, so instead they got Bungie and WETA to work together with him to create a live action digital short as a promo spot for Halo 3. The short film just debuted at E3 and it looks pretty fantastic if you ask me. Someone please greenlight this damn movie already! (You can see some higher-quality WMV versions of the video on Bungie’s site.)

I was impressed. People crowing ‘Get Cameron to do this the right way” need to sit down and politely be reminded that Cameron is doing Avatar and Battle Angel. Blommkamp would do fine with this movie. Peter Jackson is not the type of man to just pick some kid at random because he made a really good fan movie about Halo or Batman or Predator or Batman AND Predator. He has more sense than that. Bring. . .it. . .on.
Posted by Dave on July 11th, 2007Isn’t this basically a ripoff of the Starcraft III trailer with the marine?
Either way, I want to see this guy direct something. He seems good.
Posted by Henrik on July 11th, 2007This guys looks to have more creativity, visual presence, and ability to utilize special effects than Michael Bay could ever dream of.
Posted by Jay C. on July 11th, 2007Wasn’t that just the scene from Aliens of the Colonial Marines preparing to board the dropship, but with different costumes?
Posted by Rian on July 11th, 2007I was thinking the same thing Jay.
Posted by Matt on July 11th, 2007uhh i wasnt impressed at all…half of it looked like stock footage from an auto factory, and all the typing at the beginning was a BORE. i would re-watch the halo3 trailer anyday.
