Michel Gondry To Replace Tim Burton on Ripley’s Believe It Or Not?
When I heard a few weeks back that Tim Burton had left the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not project, somehow I assumed it would only be a temporary thing and that we’d see him back at the helm before long. After all, who else would you want to direct a movie about the life of a guy who chronicled the oddities of mankind? Unfortunately, it is looking like Burton’s departure is actually quite permanent, and Paramount is reportedly in talks with a new director to take over the reins. Fortunately, that new director is Michel Gondry! Now this is an interesting turn of events. Not only would this see Gondry reteam with Jim Carrey after their work on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, but it also would be the first time he directs a movie that wasn’t written by himself or Charlie Kaufman. However, this is also the thing that most worries me about the movie too. Steve Oedekerk did the most recent rewrite on the script (which was originally penned by Ed Wood writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski), and after seeing the terribly unfunny Evan Almighty I am reminded that Oedekerk is a complete tool. Let’s just hope something cool comes out of this mess.

Awesome! I love Gondry, I think it will be good. I’d be suprised if he took it if it wasn’t a good script. *crosses fingers*
