Robert Redford’s Lions for Lambs Trailer Starring Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep
Well it looks like Tom Cruise wants to regain some respectability as an actor again, putting together a new political thriller through his production company that is directed by Robert Redford (The Legend of Bagger Vance, Quiz Show). Lions for Lambs stars Cruise as a U.S. senator and presidential hopeful who is giving a TV reporter (Meryl Streep) the story of her life. Meanwhile, Redford stars as a university professor who inspires two of his students to join the battle in Afghanistan. It’s obvious that the movie is attempting to be very relevant and timely with its choice of subjects, and if that didn’t scream “blatant Oscar bid”, the fact that it weaves multiple storylines should be a dead giveaway. That said, I was still somewhat interested until I saw this first trailer for the film. I realize it’s more of a short teaser than anything else, but the music they chose and the quick shots of cool one-liners just made it seem horribly contrived. Did I mention that they debuted the trailer on Entertainment Tonight? In other words, it’s just another advertisement for Tom Cruise as far as I’m concerned. The movie was written by Matthew Michael Carnahan (The Kingdom). Lions for Lambs hits theatres on November 9th; check out the trailer via the link below.

Is it just me or does Tom Cruise feel out of place in this role? Yes, we’ve only seen about a minute and twenty seconds of it, but I couldn’t help but get that feeling.
Regardless, this doesn’t have me too interested.
Posted by Rian on July 2nd, 2007Cruise is just doing That Guy from that episode of Futurama. The 80’s guy who was happy to be the shepard for his flock of sharks. Yeah I wonder what this movies is really going to say. Does Streep have some connect the dots conspiracy that’s based on something real OR is this just realism about the theme of terrorism that’s got the cop out of being “just a movie” but is really supposed to be subversive and taken seriously? In that case I’d have to say hmmmm that’s good propaganda.
