It usually goes so that movies coming off something extremely popular rake in the cash, while movies coming off not-as-popular movies take a hit financially. And even though the movie isn't a sequel it's another aminated movie from Pixar, which is basically the same. Coming out the Fourth of July/Canada Day weekend would hit to a small degree (dude, did you see the roads yesterday? it took me 3 hours to get from Oakville to St Catharines to visit someone), and even though you wouldnt think it was competition, several of these other new releases definitely affected things. the premise for Ratatouille is nowhere near as overtly commercial as previous Pixar films, and I’m sure that made one dent.
