New To Theatres This Weekend – June 29, 2007
Well it looks like Live Free or Die Hard is off to a decent start from its opening on Wednesday, taking in $9.1 million… but will the PG-13 rating keep people away? Sounds stupid to say, I know. PG-13 means more people can see it, so I honestly don’t think it will hurt them, and reviews have been good too. On the other hand, we also have the latest movie from Brad Bird and Pixar opening this weekend. I’m still a bit unsure how Ratatouille is going to do, considering every other Pixar movie has completely dominated, but I feel like this one has been underpromoted. The biggest surprise is that Michael Moore’s Sicko opens in a measly 441 theatres… even Focus Features’ indie flick Evening has been given a bigger opening. What gives?
Evening (limited)
Live Free or Die Hard
Ratatouille
Sicko (limited)

add Transformers coming out Wednesday and its clear there are TOO MANY movies out at once right now, and they are all taking a hit because of it
you can guarantee Evan Almighty though, will take the biggest hit and can be officially called a humongous bomb (vs its budget)

Posted by andrea on June 29th, 2007Ratatouille is the best film of the year thus far. Fuck the animated feature category, this is Best Picture material.
Posted by Goon on June 29th, 2007I saw Live Free Or Die Hard on Wednesday. I liked it, but not as much as the first or third films. Maybe more than the second. As it were, if you don’t mind the cheap plug, I’ve reviewed all four Die Hard films at the following address:

I also saw Ratatouille on opening day. It was good, and obviously Pixar’s most beautiful work to date. Personally though, despite Pixar’s great track record, I don’t think that they’ve topped Toy Story in the story department yet. I’m sure many people will disagree with that, though.
I had a tough time deciding what to see this weekend because I happened to be at one of the few theaters showing Sicko, but I opted for Ratatouille instead. Unfortunately, with Transformers and Rescue Dawn coming out in a few days, I have a feeling that I might miss Sicko unless it’s release widens in the coming weeks. I’d love to catch it, though.
