David Cronenberg’s Eastern Promises Trailer Starring Viggo Mortensen and Naomi Watts
Canadian filmmaker David Cronenberg is known for delivering twisted tales of horror and supernatural chills, but his last feature film was a far cry from those genres we’ve seen him help define. A History of Violence found him adapting a graphic novel about small town man whose former life of crime comes back to haunt him. By and large, critics ate it up, and now he is reteaming with that film’s star Viggo Mortensen for another crime flick that delves into the Russian mafia instead. Eastern Promises co-stars Naomi Watts as a midwife who accidentally crosses path with an organized crime family in London. Based on how much I enjoyed A History of Violence, I am already on board for this; we all know Mortensen can deliver some kick ass performances, and the trailer does a great job of setting up the mystery without revealing too much. Eastern Promises opens on September 14th; check out the preview over at Yahoo! now.

the trailer looks awesome and naomi watts looks fantastic in it. she also has more screentime.
Posted by steandric on June 28th, 2007I have to admit that this doesn’t look all that great to me based on the trailer. I wasn’t a fan of A History Of Violence, either, so I’ll probably pass this one up.
Posted by Rian on June 28th, 2007Awesome trailer. I really liked Cronenberg’s films in the 80’s, but not as much in the 90’s. However, I thought History of Violence was damn good.
Naomi Watts is usually good any film she is in even if the movie sucks. Her performance in Mulholland Dr. fucking owned. Viggo is one of my favorite actors. It’s nice to see this guy going from doing small roles in Crimson Tide and Carlito’s Way to where he is today. I am pumped to see this.
Posted by Primal on June 28th, 2007A History of Violence was ok. I think Cronenberg is somewhat underrated. “Crash” was good “Spider” was great.
Posted by bertom on June 29th, 2007A History of Violence should have been on everybody’s top ten lists for 2005.. Can’t wait to check this one out!
Favorite Viggo movie? Anyone? Anyone?
For me it would have to be Carlito’s Way. He’s not in it for long, but when he is it’s fucking BRILLIANT.

films like “Crash” and “Spider”won him a great deal of art crowd fans, and his earlier films had made him a cult icon. i think his reputation has always been there.
